What is Modern Giver?

Modern Giver is location-based mobile donations for live events and is the premiere mobile fundraising tool that charities, churches, non-profits and schools use to increase donations at their events. It is the easiest way for anyone with a smartphone to donate to your organization in real-time using the credit or debit card of their choice and the only solution that enables and encourages spontaneous giving faster and easier than anything else on the market! The best part is that it is 100% free to join. There are no monthly fees, no hidden fees and only has simple flat fee for every transaction. Modern Giver is the most transparent and simple in the space!

How does it work for organizations?

Modern Giver makes it simple for any organization (church, school, non-profit, ministry, etc.) to accept credit and debit card donations on almost any smartphone. Organization's have access to a simple yet robust dashboard that allows you to create your donation events and the ability to track everything given to your organization through Modern Giver. Once you join, your mobile donation website is built for you automatically.

How does it work for donors?

Modern Giver allows anyone with a smartphone to donate to the organization of their choice, with the credit or debit card of their choice, instantly and conveniently. Also, all of your giving is tracked so that you can reap the benefits of charitable donation tax write-offs come tax season. To donate simply visit on your smartphone's Internet browser and it will find organizations that are near your location or you can search for an organization. Once you find the organization you want to give to, you simply tap on the specific donation event and fill out the necessary information. How secure is Modern Giver?

Our entire site is fully HTTPS encrypted, all passwords are salted and hashed, all financial data is stored with our processor that has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor, and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available. All card numbers are encrypted on disk with AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on separate machines. None of the internal servers and daemons are able to obtain plaintext card numbers. Our processor's infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in separate hosting infrastructure, and doesn't share any credentials with their primary services (API, website, etc.).

Does it work on all devices?

Modern Giver works on all major smartphones and browsers.

How do I change my logo?

Simply login to your Modern Giver Account and click on Mobile Site > Upload Logo > Add Files (or drag the file over to this page). We recommend using a logo that has a transparent background (.png) and a size of 235 pixels wide by 110 pixels high. If you don't have a logo we will use the name of your organization in a pretty text :)

What is a welcome message?

A welcome message is a few lines of text that lets your users know a little bit more about your organization when they visit your Modern Giver site.

How do I change the welcome message?

Simply login to your Modern Giver Account and click on Mobile Site >Welcome Message > Start typing your message. Remember to keep it short and sweet. It's for people on their small smartphone screens.

What is a donation event?

An event allows your organization to separate what you are needing funds for. It can be a general donation, or tithing for a church, or a specific fund for your org, or a live event. It is completely up to you. This helps keep your organization organized with the funds you are going to receive through Modern Giver.

How do I create a donation event?

Simply login to your Modern Giver Account and click on Events > Create Event. From here you can give your event a name, short description and enable or disable it. Once you click Create Event it will be live on your Modern Giver mobile website and you can start receiving funds for it, instantly.

How do I edit a donation event?

Simply login to your Modern Giver Account and click on Events > Edit Event.

Can I have a separate address for each donation event?

Yes! Every donation event has an address attached to it. Have a fundraiser in another city or state? Set the address of your event and the people near that location will be able to view and donate to it.

Can I set a minimum donation amount?

Absolutely! Every donation event has an optional field to set a minimum donation amount.

How do I view the donations of a donation event?

Login into your Modern Giver account and click on Reports on the left hand side. This will show you all stats related to your donation events.

What are receipts?

Receipts are essentially just like physical receipts, just digital. Every time your organization receive funds you instantly have a record of it, alongside the giver who receives an email receipt.

How do I view specific receipts?

Login to your Modern Giver account and click on Receipts on the left hand side. From there you can search by name, date, email, amount and event. This is handy for tax time and for customer support.

How much does it cost?

In regards to our fees, we are the most transparent and simple in the space. Other site's charge anywhere from 2-8% per transaction, plus an additional transaction fee and then there are the typical merchant account fees that they don't tell you about: Monthly Fees, Monthly Minimum Fees,Statement Fees, PCI Compliance Fees, Downgrade Fees, Early Termination Fees, Gateway Fees, Separate rate for Amex and Discover, International Card Fees...

We didn't want to get caught up in this, so we decided to ditch the fine print and have the same flat rate for every transaction. 4.9%. Period. No other fees of any kind. We strive for simplicity. There are no setup fees, no monthly fees, no minimum monthly requirement, no validation fees and no card storage fees. There is also no charge for failed payments. Our organization's will never have to decipher a complex statement, because they know what they are charged in advance.

What countries does Modern Giver work with?

Currently we offer Modern Giver for organizations in the United States, Canada, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Spain and United Kingdom. We are working diligently to open this up to other countries.

How long does it take for payments to be transferred to my bank account?

The short answer: 2 calendar days.

The long answer:

Transfers are submitted to you on a two-calendar-day rolling basis. So if you receive an order on Monday, you will receive those funds in your account on Wednesday.

Most other payment providers require a "reserve." This is a pile of cash that they hold onto to protect themselves against various risks associated with providing credit services to a business. This can often be a substantial fraction of monthly revenue, and becomes quite expensive from a cash-flow perspective. Instead of a fixed reserve, our two-day-turnaround approach is designed to be more aligned with most businesses' needs.

The seven-day rolling basis allows you to avoid the hassles traditionally associated with payment processors' reserves, while still gaining the benefit of continuous payouts.

What is the minimum $ amount that people can donate?

The minimum give that your supporters can give is $20.

What type of cards can I accept?

US organizations can accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club and also debit cards.
